9 Stories and 1 Foundation is an audio work consisting of 10 short sentences. They are "stories" that explain why an elevator is not allowed to be used in the building or why it does not exist in the first place. They are pragmatic, comprehensible justifications, flimsy excuses and honest expressions of an ableist attitude in society.
I have heard these 10 sentences again and again in this or a similar form over the last 10 years. As a disabled artist and activist, I have been working on the topic of accessibility in public spaces and especially in publicly funded cultural institutions during that time.

9: In case of fire, the elevator may not be used. We ask for your understanding.
8: The elevator is currently defective and cannot be used. We ask for your understanding.
7: Due to construction work, the elevator cannot be used. We ask for your understanding.
6: This is a freight elevator. The use for persons is therefore not permitted. We ask for your understanding.
5: Due to energy-saving measures, the elevator may no longer be used. We ask for your understanding.
4: Due to the old building fabric and the monument protection, it is not possible to install an elevator. We ask for your understanding.
3: For cost reasons, we did not plan an elevator. We ask for your understanding.
2: Since the architects themselves have no disability, they have not planned an elevator. We ask for your understanding.
1: The public space was simply not built for people with 'special needs'. We ask for your understanding.
