Wo Ai Lo-Fi (I Love Lo-Fi)

Video series, SD, stereo, 2024
part 1: 1:27 Min., part 2: 0:25 Min., part 3: 1:10 Min., part 4: 1:25 Min., part 5: 1:03 Min., part 6: 1:42 Min.,

This video series consists of six parts. The short clips are observations about technical infrastructure in everyday life. It ranges from simple electronic circuits and high-voltage lines to cleaning robots and self-driving cars to digital apps that give us suggestions as to what mood we could be in. It ends with download processes that never come to an end, because they keep breaking off. The low-resolution camera images are accompanied by experimental music, which picks up on the lo-fi aesthetic and was mostly created with a small portable synthesizer. This aesthetic resists the polished surfaces and overproduced sounds we encounter on our phones. Our current dependence on digital infrastructure is a logical continuation of the dependency that started with simple copper wires. Today, material physical hardware is still active in the background, even if it is less visible.
