Training (for) a Possible Application
Video, SD, stereo, 9:09 min., 2024How would artificial intelligence have to be trained if it should exist not only as software in a computer, but embodied in the physical, analogue world? It would have to learn the rules of this world and apply them correctly. The video shows how our everyday life already works like an algorithm. Machines, devices, signs and other unintelligent precursors of AI are the expression of rules. They clock through our lives, take decisions away and leave little room for chance. The footage was recorded in Beijing in 2024, but the principles apply for other times and places as well. The video was recorded on low resolution Mini DV tapes. This archaic medium is 20 years old, and the tapes and the old mechanics of the camcorder influence the aesthetic of the work by introducing glitches and graphical irritations.
